Candidate for State House 118, Carter Kessler, Against Transportation Tax
Carter Kessler, Republican candidate for State House district 118 which covers a majority of Athens-Clarke County, is another Athens area candidate that is against the new T-SPLOST being voted on in July. Carter does not agree with this new tax revenue source to fund transportation because he believes there are better solutions to the problem than just another tax increase. He believes that road maintenance and construction have already been funded by previous tax collections and those funds were included into our state, local, and federal budgets. Our biggest concern, he explains, is to get transportation costs under fiscal control and reign in wasteful spending around the state. New taxes will not fix the problem; only fiscal responsibility and zero based budgeting from our government will. This is exactly the kind of innovative thinking that he hopes to bring to the General Assembly.
