THE POWERHOUSE SELF-DEFENSE PROGRAM A HUGE SUCCESS AT THE GIRLSCOUTS CENTENNIAL CAMPOREE
Powerhouse Self-Defense Empowered over 625 Girls in One Week
ROSWELL (July 2, 2012)—The Powerhouse Self-Defense Program of Roswell , established in November of 2011, has begun to empower and educate hundreds of girls and women across the state and country. Of these hundreds of women and girls, the Girl Scouts of USA have consistently used the Powerhouse Self-Defense Program as their number one source for education on awareness and self-defense techniques.
The Powerhouse Self-Defense Program has held workshops for local girl scouts over the past 8 months at the headquarters located in Mableton, GA. As a result of this partnership, the company was asked to participate in the Girl Scouts Centennial Camporee held this year in Savannah, GA. Powerhouse considered this a huge honor considering the company was one of six chosen out of hundreds to participate in the Camporee. The Powerhouse self-defense curriculum coincides with the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character. The workshops also focus on building self-esteem and confidence, which is also a big concept in Girl Scouting.
The Camporee brought girl scouts from 37 states and 3 countries to Savannah, GA, and resulted in over 625 girls being empowered and educated in awareness and self-defense. Because the Powerhouse workshops were such a huge success, several troop leaders have already requested the presence of Powerhouse in their states. So far, 11 states have requested Powerhouse Self-Defense workshops including Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, New York, and Illinois. Powerhouse is in the process of planning workshops in each state that has requested workshops for their girl scouts.
Jennifer Riis-Poulsen, Founder & CEO and also a 2nd degree black belt, formed Powerhouse Self-Defense as a response to the ever-increasing statistics on the number of women attacked and sexually assaulted each year. She made reducing these statistics a personal goal and set out to develop a comprehensive self-defense program focused on awareness and powerful techniques used for defense. The curriculum is based on her 11 years of martial arts experience, and is designed for all types of women and all age groups from 12 years of age and above; however, children under the age of 12 are welcomed to take part in the Bullying Prevention Program (BPP) and the Kids Awareness Program (KAP), which are scheduled to take off late this summer.
Powerhouse Self-Defense will bring its workshops to you and your community!
