UGA to host regional marketing student convention
The University of Georgia chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, marketing fraternity, will host the South/West Regional Conference November 8th-10th at the Tate Student Center in Athens, Georgia. The convention will connect marketing and sales students to professionals from top companies including Altria Group, Chick-Fil-A, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and many others. It will also include a presentation from keynote speaker David Preston, Vice President of Southeast Marketing at the Coca-Cola Company.
UGA’s chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon was asked by the national organization to host the conference in early 2012, and a committee of Pi Sigma Epsilon student members spent much of 2012 organizing and planning the conference. The committee was led by third-year Marketing student Lauren Slavin, who calls planning the regional conference “one of the most rewarding leadership experiences I have had thus far in my college career.” Miss Slavin and the committee of student members had the task of organizing every detail of the conference from securing sponsorships to creating a promotional website and video. “I cannot wait to kick off our conference in just two and a half weeks, after a year's worth of hard work!” says Miss Slavin.
Students who attend the conference will participate in a tour of the university campus, a pro-am sales competition, a speaker’s competition presented by Enterprise, and a marketing competition presented by TEKsystems. The conference will also include a career fair to allow student members to network with sales and marketing professionals and recruiters from major companies.
The regional conference coincides with the centennial of the Terry College of Business, founded at UGA in 1912 as the oldest business school in the South. “This is truly an honor for our chapter,” says Dr. Kevin Ellis, faculty advisor for UGA’s Pi Sigma Epsilon chapter. Dr. Ellis is proud to invite schools to “see and feel the Terry experience firsthand.”
Students who participate in Pi Sigma Epsilon at UGA are typically marketing students in the Terry College seeking a career in sales. For more information about the UGA chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, visit www.uga.edu/pse.
