Athens Today--February 10

Thank goodness it's Friday! Let's hope everyone stays healthy!

It’s baaaccck! Yes, the Athens Jewish Film Festival returns this weekend. Things get off to a great start on Saturday and continue for the next few days. Shown at the Georgia Museum of Art, the Saturday film is “The Yankles,” which focuses on a baseball team of orthodox Yeshiva students whose new coach is a former baseball player. Other movies will be shown at the Morton Theatre.

Speaking of movies, the Speak out for Species () student group shows “A Fall from Freedom,” on Monday. It’s the second in the “Animal Voices” film festival  and it deals with the practice of keeping dolphins and whales captive. Movies are shown in the Miller Learning Center.

Today is the deadline to register for the “A Taste of Athens 10K” and one mile family fun run next Saturday, Feb. 18, beginning at 8am. Registration is $10 for the fun run (an accompanying adult is free) and $25 for the 10K. After today, the price increases by $5.

The Washington, D.C.-based satirical group The Capitol Steps appears tonight at 8pm in the UGA Performing Arts Center. It’s not too late to get tickets and laugh like crazy.

Does your business have a social media component? Do you use Facebook? If you don't because you're not sure how it works, social media consultant Jami Howard may be able to tell you. Jami (full disclosure: she is an occasional, though welcome, blogger for Athens Patch) is offering a three-hour workshop this Sunday from 4:30 to 7:30pm at Community. Everything you need to know is, of course, online.
