Athens Today--November 11

Thank a vet, and head to Oconee Hill Cemetery today at 11 for a ceremony.

 

The ACC Stormwater and Water Conservation Office will hold a rain barrel workshop at Thyme After Thyme today. Bring your own barrel and learn to convert plastic barrels and sturdy trash cans into rain barrels. Drop in between 4pm and 6pm; no appointment is necessary. The first barrel conversion is free and each additional one is $10.

The Moonlight Gypsy Market at Little Kings Shuffle Club is a place for freaks, weirdos and their friends to convene and make merriment. Erotic, macabre, dark and odd arts and crafts will be available from local vendors and artists, beginning at 9pm tonight.

The UGA Bulldawgs take on the Auburn Tigers tomorrow at 3:30pm. Prepare for an onslaught of Tigers fans. War Eagle!

The Athens Farmers Market takes place on tomorrow from 9am-12pm at Bishop Park.  

The Chronicles of Harris Burdick Celebration will take place at Avid Bookshop on Sunday from 1pm-3pm. Middle-schoolers and elementary students from Athens will read their submissions to a national writing contest, in celebration of the newest book by young-adult novelist, Chris van Allsburg.

Athens bands will take to the stage of the Georgia Theatre on Sunday to pay tribute to R.E.M. The doors will open at 6pm. This show is for ages 18 and up (under 18 admitted if accompanied by a parent). Participating artists include David Barbe and the Quick Hooks, The Corduroy Road, Futurebirds, Grogus, Jack Logan and Coventry Climax, John Keane and Nathan Sheppard, Kevn Kinney, Lera Lynn, Nanny Island, Romper Stompers (feat. Todd Nance of Widespread Panic, William Tonks & Jon Mills of Barbara Cue, and Danny Hutchens of Bloodkin), Thayer Sarrano, and 706.
