Chase Street Elementary Named a National Blue Ribbon School

Only seven public schools in Georgia received this designation.

Today U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan named seven Georgia public schools 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools. One of those was Chase Street Elementary School, which was distinguished as an dramatically improving school.

The No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools award singles out schools for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.

"I congratulate these seven schools for being recognized as 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools," said State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge. "The students, teachers and staff of these schools should be proud of their success. These schools are shining examples of what happens when everyone is focused on student learning."

Blue Ribbon Schools are chosen in two categories:Β

- HIGH PERFORMING SCHOOLS: Schools that scored in the top 10 percent in student achievement.

- DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED SCHOOLS: Schools with at least 40 percent economically disadvantaged students that have dramatically improved student achievement to high levels.

Georgia's winning schools will join other national winners at an awards ceremony on Nov. 12 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. For more information on the Blue Ribbon Schools program, go to the Blue Ribbon Schools website. Β

- Austell Intermediate School, Cobb County

- Kittredge Magnet, DeKalb County

- Crabapple Crossing, Fulton County

- Fairmount Elementary, Gordon County

- Simpson Elementary, Gwinnett County

- Britt David Elementary, Muscogee County
