A former package store on Alps Road has been evolving into a Chipotle Mexican Grill, the first made-to-order burrito restaurant of its brand in the Athens area. The Chipotle is tucked in between the Inoko and Chili's.

The first of its kind? What about Barberitos, Moes, and Willys? I'm as GEEKED about Chipotle as the next person, but it's hardly the first of its kind in Athens.

Kimberly,
That should read "the first of its brand." It should have been edited that way before you saw the story, so that's weird. Anyway, the point is, it's the first Chipotle, not the first burrito place.

May be great, but there are lots of fantastic locally owned restaurants in this town and that's where we'll be.

Becky, where do you go for burritos?

Sr. Sol, Cali 'n' Tito's, Barberito's (still locally owned if not strictly local), Taco Stand in a hurry. Chipotle is not a locally owned franchise. It is a publicly traded corporate entity I believe.

I've tried the burrito places around here and Chipotle just tastes better. I have been hoping for one to open here since I moved to Athens a year ago. Can't wait for it to open!

Yes, chipotle is not the first burrito place in Athens, but it will be the best by far. I have tried all of them and Chipotle is leaps and bounds beyond in quality. I woul ask for Chipotle ony death bed for my last meal. I'm so happy one is coming for my senior year at UGA.

I cannot WAIT for Chipotle to open. I have been waiting for this day for 5 years. Their food is just better than all the other Burrito chains in Athens and when you need a quick, on the go burrito (not a sit down like Sr. Sol, Cali & Titos, etc) Chipotle is going to be THE place to go. So excited. Any news on when it opens?

Hey Annie! We don't have official word yet, but it looks like Chipotle might open mid-June. You can find a little more word here: http://athens.patch.com/articles/chipotle-to-open-mid-june.
