At approximately 6:57 p.m., an armed robbery was reported at the Dollar General Store at 3190 Atlanta Highway. The suspect had entered the store and approached a cashier with a note. The note instructed the cashier that he wanted “big bills” and indicated he had a gun. The suspect at one point reached behind him, as if he was retrieving a weapon, then reached across the counter and grabbed cash from the cash register, then turned and ran out of the store. A manager witnessed him running out of the store with cash in his hand, followed him into the parking lot where he was seen getting into a white, four-door vehicle and leaving the area. The manager also obtained a partial tag number. The suspect is described as a black male, approx. 6’ 0”, wearing a black stocking cap, black sweatshirt, khaki pants and black shoes. Nobody was injured during the incident and no weapon was ever displayed. The police have since obtained a warrant for the arrest of 49-year-old Randy Davis, who’s driving a white Chevrolet Lumina with the Georgia tag PD92SH.

ACCPD officers met with a 45-year-old man at  Athens Regional Medical center regarding a stab wound. The man had a stab wound to his shoulder, but he would not provide any information regarding the location or any details regarding the incident.

A teacher at Clarke Central High School reported to the school resource officer that a student in his or her class was in possession of a butterfly knife. The student was contacted and placed under arrest for Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Weapon on School Property. Khain Ladely, 17, was arrested and transported to the Athens-Clarke County Jail.

A 23-year-old man reported the rear door of his Strickland Ave. residence was kicked in and his residence was rummaged through. The only item determined to be missing was change from a glass jar.

A 39-year-old woman reported her residence was entered through an unlocked window. Her residence was found to be in disarray (furniture overturned, drawers emptied onto the floor, etc.), but nothing was determined to have been taken.

An employee of Blasingame, Burch and Garrard, located at 440 College Avenue, found a broken basement window and entry into the building. An attempt was made to remove a television from inside, but the suspect(s) could not get it out of the broken window.

A Magnolia Street residence was entered through a forced-open front door. An X-Box Game System and game, Samsung TV and an HP laptop computer were stolen. 

A 21-year-old woman reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered while it was parked on Jonas Avenue and a Garmin Nuvi GPS was stolen.

During a road check on Prince Avenue near Sylvia Circle, ACCPD officers had contact with a white Chevrolet pickup truck, and during contact with the driver, noticed a knife in the vehicle and smelled an odor of marijuana. The driver was removed from the vehicle, and the investigation revealed he was in possession of a quantity of marijuana and a set of scales. Michael Timothy Newton, 28, East Rutherford Street, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana With Intent To Distribute and Possession of Drug Related Objects.

While investigating a reported stolen cell phone, ACCPD officers  made contact with two persons acting suspiciously. During their contact, one of the officers observed one of the persons drop a white pill (identified as Oxycodone) on the ground. When officers attempted to investigate further, the subject ran, but was caught after a short pursuit. Jason Casterdera Taylor, 27, was arrested. During a search incidental to his arrest, more drugs were discovered. He was arrested and charged with Possession of Scheduled Drugs With Intent To Distribute and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.

A 74-year-old Normal, IL, resident was traveling southbound on Ila Road while operating a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig. A 21-year-old man of Norwood Lane in Athens was traveling northbound in a 2001 Ford Escort. The tractor trailer attempted to turn into a private business driveway, and turned into the path of the other. The Escort driver was transported by EMS for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The tractor trailer driver was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way Turning Left.

A 39-year-old woman of Spring Lake Court, Athens, was traveling eastbound in a 2006 Acura TL. A 34-year-old woman of Wolfskin Road, Arnoldsville, had been stopped at the traffic light on Morton Road, and was attempting to turn left (westbound) onto Lexington Road. According to a witness, the Acura entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and struck the other vehicle. Both drivers and a three-year old passenger in that vehicle were transported by EMS for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The Acura driver was cited for Failure To Obey a Traffic Control Device.
