Crime Blotter--Assault and Theft

Around 5:30pm on October 2 officers responded to an accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a train on Cleveland Road near Darlington Station Road. Investigation revealed that William Marty Thomas, 51, Lonestar Road, Bogart, had been lying on the railroad tracks and was struck by an east bound CSX train. He died at the scene. The investigation continues.

A 22-year old victim (Victim 2) said she arrived at her eastside residence around 4pm on October 2 and found her 20-year old roommate (Victim 1) tired up. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the man was Marcus Anthony Dukes and he was armed with a knife. Victim 1 said Dukes was in the apartment when she came home. He wrapped her hands with tape and made her sit on the couch for about 45 minutes. When Victim 2 arrived, Dukes held the knife up at her and made stabbing motions toward her. Victim 2 struggled with the suspect and Victim 1 tried to assist her. When Victim 2 started screaming, Dukes left. Officers searched the area but the suspect was not located. The investigation continues.

A storage shed at a Forest Acres Circle residence was burglarized between 12:10am and 8am on October 2. A push mower valued at $100 was stolen.


A man reported a laptop valued at $1,000 was stolen from his Rocky Drive residence between 1am on September 30 and 10:30am on October 1. This was reported on October 2.

A Highland Park Drive residence was burglarized between 9am and 1pm on October 2. A TV, desktop computer, game console, and cash were stolen. The total value was $2,100. A possible suspect was named.

Between 1:15pm and 1:35pm on October 3, cash and a cell phone, total value $610, were stolen from a Broad Street office. The owner said as she returned to her office she saw a young black man exit. As he passed her he appeared to be hiding something behind his back. She entered her office and realized her purse had been moved and items were missing, so she called out to him. He fled from the building was last seen running east on Clayton St. A construction worker chased him but lost contact him. The suspect was described as 17 to 21 years old, 5’7” to 5’9”, slim build, wearing a long, white shirt and black jeans.


A man from Yorkshire Road reported that a vacant South Ridge Drive residence was burglarized between 12noon on October 1 and 3pm on October 2. A refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, heater, and ceiling fan were stolen. The total value was $1.550.

A vehicle owned by All American Plumbing, 1500 West Hancock Ave, was entered between 5pm on  September 27 and 8am on October 2. Sewer machines, an angle drill, sawzall, saw, hammer drills, water heater pump, faucet repair kit, and various plumbing supplies were stolen. The total value was $8,150.

A Lexington man reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle between 6:30pm on September 28 and 10am on September 29 while it was parked on Trail Creek Street. Hand guns and a rifle with a total value of $2,407 were stolen. This was reported on October 2.
