Driving Too Close to Cop Leads to Suspended License Arrest
The information in this story comes from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.
An Athens man was arrested Tuesday night for driving with a suspended license after driving too close to a police officer, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.
At about 10pm, an officer was attempting to move a semi-truck which was blocking two lanes. A dark-colored car drove past in the lane adjacent to the officer. The officer reportedly had to slam his door and press against the side of the car to avoid being hit.
After initiating a traffic stop on the car, the officer discovered that Joel Weems, 54, was driving with a suspended license after receiving two separate DUIs.
Weems was arrested and taken to the Clarke County Jail.
