Flat Tire and Public Urination Lead to DUI Arrest

The information in this story comes from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens man was arrested for public urination and DUI after getting a flat tire, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

A truck was spotted by an officer outside World of Futons with its door open and a man standing near the vehicle. The building has been the site of several crimes lately, so the officer went to check on the vehicle.

When the officer asked Willie Johnson, 52, what he was doing in the area, he said he had a flat tire. His tire was flat — a chunk of the sidewall was missing. The officer suspected Johnson had been driving impaired.

The officer placed Johnson in handcuffs so he could check to see if he had urinated on the wall. After finding the mark on the wall, the officer asked Johnson if he had been drinking. He said he drank one beer. He also refused to breathe into a breathalyzer, according to the police report.

Johnson was arrested and charged with DUI and public urination. He was taken to Clarke County Jail.
