Friend Finds Woman Bound with Tape and other Crimes

At 2:30pm on January 19th, a friend stopped by the eastern Athens-Clarke County residence of a 20-year old female. When he entered the residence, he found the victim bound, hands and feet, with tape around her head. The victim was slow to respond, and ACCPD and EMS were notified. Other than being emotionally shaken, the victim did not appear to be seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing.
Early Sunday morning, ACCPD units responded to the Club Platinum, 1905 Commerce Road, in response to a call for assistance from an off-duty Clarke County Sheriff’s Deputy regarding “shots fired.” Responding officers located a total of seven spent cartridges from two different caliber weapons and a blood trail leading from the parking lot. It is believed that a large fight had occurred inside the club and it spilled out into the parking lot where the shooting occurred. From there, officers responded to Athens Regional Hospital to meet with a self-transported victim of the shooting. A man who lives on Franklin Street had received a superficial wound and was being treated. The investigation is on-going.
Between 3:54 and 4:00am on January 19th, someone entered the Volstead Bar, 351 East Clayton Street, and stole approximately $1,000.00 from the office area. Video surveillance shows a suspect entering the front door of the business with a key, then locking the door behind him after he was inside. The suspect then retrieved a hidden key that enabled him to enter the office area. After the theft, the suspect left the business, locking the door behind him once he was outside.
A woman reported that between 8:30am and 2:00pm on January 19th, someone tried to enter her Mercer Lane residence, damaging the window and frame of her front door. There was no evidence the intruder had gotten in.
Between 8:00am on January 18 and 7:00pm on January 19, someone kicked in the front door of a West Broad Street residence and went inside. Two Sony TV’s, a Wii Game System, Dell laptop computer, Android Tablet and two surveillance cameras were stolen from inside the residence.
A neighbor told a woman that she had seen a subject crawling through a window into the woman’s Cone Drive residence. The residence had been rummaged through, but nothing was determined to have been taken. This occurred between 6:00pm and 9:00pm on January 19th. (
A man returned to his Fern Ridge Drive residence at 3:30am on January 20 and discovered it had been entered through a broken second-story window. A safe that had contained cash had been moved within the residence, and $150.00 cash, an Armani watch and a set of headphones had been stolen from the man’s bedroom.
A man from Chateau Terrace, Athens, reported that while he was inside Kroger’s, 2301 College Station Road, someone stole the vehicle he was driving from the parking lot. The man had been inside the store from 11:45pm on January19 until 12:50am on January 20. The vehicle taken is an orange 2001 Acura CL, bearing Georgia license plate HU1F68. The vehicle belongs to a woman from Lawrenceville.
A woman from Greensboro reported that while she was at a residence on Burkland Drive around 4:52am on January 20, someone she knew took her 2009 red Nissan Altima from the driveway. A search of the area by ACCPD led them to the vehicle on Danielsville Road near J.J. Harris Elementary School where it had been wrecked. Quincy Lee Daniel of Colbert was arrested and charged with Theft By Taking Motor Vehicle, Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Unlicensed, and Hit and Run. Daniel received minor injuries in the crash and was treated at a local hospital.
An employee of Badcock Furniture, 2215 Lexington Road, reported that the driver-side window of the store’s delivery truck was broken out while it was parked in the lot of the business. Nothing was determined to have been taken.
A woman reported that her vehicle had been entered by someone unzipping a window closure. The vehicle was entered between 2:00am and 9:00am, January 19, and a GPS System and wallet were taken.
