An Athens man was arrested Thursday and charged with DUI while he was eating at the Waffle House on Oconee Street, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

An officer was on patrol in the Oconee Street and downtown area at about 2:30 am when he received a report that a man who had been driving in the area was not maintaining his lane. The car had been reportedly heading toward Waffle House.

When the officer arrived at the parking lot, the man was inside sitting at one of the booths with another man, with his car in the parking lot. The officer noticed he was unsteady when picking up his food, and seemed to have trouble concentrating.

Thomas Bowman, 49, told police that he had been at BarSouth, "throwing darts, having a good time." He said he had only had a couple of beers, but changed stories twice on how long he had been there.

After determining that Bowman was over the limit, he was placed under arrest. Bowman was charged with DUI and taken to the Clarke County Jail.
