Dr. James Moore, who has been practicing plastic surgery in Athens for 25 years, has become the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Athens Regional Health System.
System President and CEO Jamey Thaw announced on Monday that Moore had accepted the position.
Thaw said in a press release that he is delighted to have a new CMO who is “locally known and highly respected.”
At Athens Regional, Moore has been a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, former Chief of Staff and a member of the medical staff. Other affiliations include: past president, Georgia Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons; secretary, Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons; member, American Society of Plastic Surgeons; member, The Crawford W. Long Medical Society; member, The Georgia Surgical Society; chairman, Duke Alumni Admissions Committee of Northeast Georgia.
He received a B.A. from Duke and an M.D. from New York University. A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Moore completed his internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and his residencies in general and plastic surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. He is board certified in general and plastic surgery.
"As a physician in private practice, I was especially proud of my relationships with my patients and with other physicians,” said Moore. The decision to accept the CMO position was “not an easy one,” he said.
“However, I know first hand what the hospital does for our community and the quality of care being provided here,” said Moore. “Therefore, I am proud to be joining medical leadership. It’s a very exciting time to be an integral part of this organization.”
Moore and his wife Susan, who is a nurse, are the parents of three daughters. The Moore family is active and enjoys such pastimes as long distance running, swimming, biking and a myriad of other sports.
