League of Women Voters Nixes Charter Schools Commission Amendment
Non-partisan groups says it's "bad public policy to create a duplicate school system."
The non-partisan Georgia League of Women Voters joins the Georgia PTA in opposing the proposed amendment to create a State Charter Schools Commission, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.
League president Elizabeth Poythress said the civic-affairs group is urging its members to vote against the amendment on this fall’s general election ballot.
The amendment would set up a state commission to approve charter schools in communities even if the local school board opposed it, and to give the charter schools state money.
