Man Attempts Theft from Target, Gets Tackled

The information in this story comes from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens man was arrested Tuesday after he attempted to shoplift from Target and was tackled to the ground, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

Police responded to Target after an employee reported that a man tried to shoplift about $30 worth of merchandise. When police arrived, Ronnie Scogin, 43, was detained by employees.

Staff told police that Scogin would not stop when he was caught attempting to leave the store, so an employee tackled him to the ground. Scogin attempted to kick the employee in the ground, but missed. No injuries occured.

The employee told police that he was pressing charges for simple battery, along with shoplifting charges for simple battery.

Scogin told police his wrist and shoulder were hurt during the struggle. He was sent to Athens Regional Medical Center. He was barred for two years from Target.
