More Tasty Lunch Options in Winterville
Still grieving over the loss of the Marigold Cafe? Take heart!
Hey, what's that aroma? Yummm.
Pulled pork. Chicken barbecue. Pimento cheese. Goodness, let me sit down and wipe the drool off my face.
These represent just a few of the delicious sounding offerings at the Winterville Cafe, which is now serving a takeout lunch. The place at 315 Athens Road is too small for seating, says chef Mickey Wickwire, owner of Classic City Chef, so plan to take your lovely lunch elsewhere. When it's warm again, he plans to put table snd chairs outside and put ice cream on the menu. Oh, boy!
There's a smokhouse on site, where he's smoking a lot of meats. He even smokes, and then fries, chicken wings, to give them a unique crunchy flavor, and then serves them with homemade blue cheese dressing.
Wickwire is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, so he knows cooking, as anyone who has eaten his catered food will testify. And he apparently also knows how people like to eat at lunchtime. The daily specials include chicken mull on Tuesday, Cuban pork on Thursdays and barbecued fried catfish on Fridays.
Orders can be placed ahead by calling 706-742-2011. The Cafe will offer take-out lunch Mon. - Sat., 11am--3pm.
