Perm Kit Theft Leads to Crack Pipe Possession Arrest

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens woman was arrested Monday after she was charged with stealing a box of perm from the Family Dollar on Lexington Road, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

Family Dollar employees called police after Barbara Swopshire, 50, was seen stealing a box of Olive Oil Root Stimulator. Swopshire, who had left the store after being confronted by store personnel, admitted the theft when police confronted her. Swopshire had previous shoplifting convictions and had been barred from Family Dollar for two years in May 2012.

During a search of Swopshire's posessions, police found a crack pipe inside a cigarette box in her purse. Swopshire was charged with possession of drug related objects, criminal trespass and shoplifting. She was taken to the Clarke County Jail.
