U.S. Rep. Paul Broun to Face Republican Challenger in 2012

A businessman and retired Army officer will run against U.S. Rep. Paul Broun next year in District 10.

Stephen Simpson, a businessman and retired Army officer, will go up against U.S. Rep. Paul Broun in the 2012 Republican primary.

Simpson made his plans official on Sunday in a news release, according to the Athens Banner-Herald

Simpson's campaign headquarters are located in Milledgeville, but he has lived in Macon outside of current 10th Congressional district lines for several years, according to the article.

State lawmakers in August removing sections north of Athens  and extending the boundaries to metro Atlanta and middle Georgia, including Barrow and Walton counties. The new district lines will become official in 2012 if approved by federal courts.

In September, when Simpson first announced an interest in running, he told the Athens Banner-Herald he would likely move to Athens or nearby once he decides to run.
