A high percentage of Lake Lanier deaths are not boating accidents, but 'swimmers' who cannot swim. Read MoreIt's a big party in Hall County enticing the unprepared to visit it's sandy beaches. Many, not all, other local lakes are mostly welcoming boaters and not swimmers. Owning a boat takes money and with money comes the inclination to teach your children to swim. The problem these days is most insurance companies don't cover this or have drastically cut benefits. I am not blaming the insurance companies either, just stating the facts. 20 or 30 years ago there was adequate help available but things changed.
