I know from some first-hand experience how painful such situations can be, and it is NO laughing matter, but still -- considering the human drama/comedy in which we are all players -- I can just now, after reading hs Patch notice, imagine some darkly humorous skits for the entertainment part of the....what?.....Alzheimers Disease and Related Dementias Caregivers Luncheon. Maybe I'll start working on a few routines for when our children have Kammy and me "on their hands." I mean, none of us knows how we will ease out of this life. Nowadays, the idea of old Mr. Julian Cox's burning up in his leather armchair on Cloverhurst --while smoking and having a toddy -- doesn't seems as horrific as it did to me when I heard the story at 40 years old, you know?

Still seems pretty horrific to me, unless Mr. Cox were a Buddhist monk, in which case, it's just a sad commentary on modern life.

Not as horrific as 5 or 8 or 10 years of Alzheimer's or regular old dementia.....

And, no, Mr. Cox went to First Baptist downtown. And -- according to all those stories about him told by his admiring friend, my father -- there was nary a single monk-like feature in all of Mr. Julian Cox's very large personality. (By the way, this man was the grandfather of our current secretary of state.)

Thanks for the clarification. Will ask Brian about the chair story at church.

Yes, do that. I had forgotten that you had lapsed into what a Russian Orthodox priest once told me was "the Episcopal branch error."
