In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service, thus MLK Day of Service was born. This day allows for people all across the United States to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through service!
Since 2002, Athens-Clarke County has joined in this effort to create a better America in honor of the man who made that his life goal. Community Connection is excited to be spearheading this day of service for in its 11th year in Athens. Last year we had 35 sites and over 1,000 volunteers and we are looking forward to an even more successful day this year!

More About Community Connection
Community Connection functions as a referral agency for a 14-county area in Northeast Georgia. Whether someone needs help obtaining food, clothes, financial assistance, shelter or employment, the folks at Community Connection can steer them to the right resources. The non-profit also coordinates volunteers through the Hands on Northeast Georgia. And it runs the Non-Profit Development Alliance, which trains other non-profits in the area.
