DESCRIPTION:Referred to as a "radial radical\," the African American cont
 emporary artist Chakaia Booker used tires as her primary material in con
 structing these large-scale sculptures on loan from Marlborough Gallery\
 , Chelsea\, N.Y. Spiky\, dark\, imposing and beautiful\, these works int
 eract with the museum's peaceful\, minimalist sculpture garden in new wa
 ys. Booker\, who received her MFA from the City College of New York\, ha
 s work in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the Studio
  Museum in Harlem and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration 
 (NASA)\, among many others. She also designs clothing and accessories fr
 om rubber and creates headpieces from unconventional materials.\nThe mus
 eum is closed Mondays.
