Avid Bookshop is thrilled to announce a new installment of the Avid Poetry Series. The event will be held Friday, December 7th, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Readings from poets Hanna Andrews, Marisa Crawford, Becca Klaver, Lily Ladewig, Jennifer Tamayo, and Gale Marie Thompson guarantee another inspiring, enlightening, and literary stimulating evening.
Hanna Andrews is the author of Slope Move (Coconut Books, 2012) and a chapbook a / long / division (Tilt Press, 2009). She is the co-founder and co-editor of the feminist press Switchback Books, the Content Editor for the Academy of American Poets and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Marisa Crawford is the author of the poetry collection The Haunted House (Switchback Books, 2010), and the chapbook 8th Grade Hippie Chic, (forthcoming, Immaculate Disciples Press). Her writing has recently appeared in Action Yes, Columbia Poetry Review, Black Clock and Delirious Hem, and on Feministing’s Community blog and VIDA’s blog, HER KIND. She lives in Brooklyn. Becca Klaver is the author of the poetry collection LA Liminal (Kore Press, 2010) and the chapbooks Inside a Red Corvette: A 90s Mix Tape (greying ghost, 2009), Merrily, Merrily (forthcoming, Lame House Press), and Nonstop Pop (forthcoming, Bloof Books). She co-founded Switchback Books and serves on the Outreach Committee for VIDA: Women in Literary Arts. Becca attended the University of Southern California and Columbia College Chicago, and is currently a PhD candidate at Rutgers University, where she studies experimental women’s poetry, feminism, and the everyday. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, she now lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Lily Ladewig is the author of The Silhouettes (SpringGun Press, 2012) and, with Anne Cecelia Holmes, the online chapbook I Am A Natural Wonder (Blue Hour Press, 2011). Her poems have appeared in Conduit, Denver Quarterly, Drunken Boat, H_NGM_N, iO, Salt Hill, and Spinning Jenny, among other places. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Jennifer Tamayo is the author of Red Missed Aches Read Missed Aches Red Mistakes Read Mistakes (Switchback 2011) and the chapbook POEMS ARE THE ONLY REAL BODIES forthcoming from Bloof books 2013. She serves as the Managing Editor at Futurepoem books.
Gale Marie Thompson's first collection of poems, Soldier On, is forthcoming from Tupelo Press. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Denver Quarterly, Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art, Volt, Salt Hill, inter|rupture, diode, H_NGM_N, and others. Originally from South Carolina, she is a recent graduate of the University of Massachusetts MFA Program and a PhD candidate at the University of Georgia. A poem of hers will soon appear in the Best New Poets 2012, edited by Matthew Dickman. She is also creator and editor of Jellyfish Magazine (jellyfishmagazine.org), and works at the Georgia Review.
