Slowing Traffic On Prince Avenue? Hats Off to ACC Police Officers

Prince Avenue often seems like a raceway.

Thursday, Athens Clarke County Police Officers took their lives in their hands: they crossed Prince Avenue in the crosswalk at Pope Street. In front of Emmanuel Episcopal and Model Citizen.

Neighborhood residents said it was a crosswalk sting. A plainclothes policeman was crossing the street, where there are flashes that signal someone wants to cross, but sometimes cars didn't stop. And those drivers got tickets.

As a member of Emmanuel, I say a prayer every Sunday if I have to cross Prince, hoping the cars in all four lanes stop so my girls and I, and anyone else going with us, don't die on Prince. Thanks, ACC Police, for slowing the traffic, if only for an afternoon.
