Become a Master Composter!

Do you enjoy working with people, digging in the dirt and talking “trash”? Become an Athens-Clarke County Master Composter!

Master Composters are an elite group of volunteers who participate in a comprehensive composting course. Throughout this nine-week training, students learn the chemistry and microbiology of composting, types of and reasons for composting and tools for teaching others about backyard composting techniques. Master Composters then serve at least 40 volunteer hours within the first year to share their composting knowledge and skills with the Athens community. As a Master Composter, you’ll be able to staff booths at farmers markets, assist in leading workshops, give hands-on presentations to civic, community and garden groups and more!

Offered through Athens-Clarke County Cooperative Extension and the  Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division, the 2014 Master Composter classes will be held Wednesdays from 6:00—8:30 PM starting January 29th through March 26th with two Saturday morning field trips on February 22nd and March 15th. Cost for the course is $145. Participants must register by Friday, January 10th.
