Bogart resident Bret Thurmond named to UGA Alumni Association Board of Directors
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia Alumni Association has appointed Bret Thurmond, a Bogart, Ga., resident, to the UGA Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Thurmond is an engineer and president of Armentrout Matheny Thurmond, P.C. His 24 years of professional practice include founding and operating Electrostatic Spraying Systems. The company manufactures electrostatic sprayers for the agricultural, post-harvest, food processing, disinfection, mold prevention, pest control and restoration markets. Thurmond began his career as an engineer for Cummins Engine Company.

Outside of work, Thurmond is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, and serves as the regional vice president of Alpha Gamma Rho a social fraternity with an emphasis on academic excellence and agriculture.
“We’re so grateful to have Bret join our board of directors,” said Executive Director of Alumni Relations Deborah Dietzler. “His insight will aid the Association in its goals.”

This is not the first time Thurmond has donated his time to his alma mater. He is also on the board of directors for the UGA Agricultural Engineering Development Fund.
Thurmond graduated from UGA with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering in 1980, with an emphasis on soil and water engineering and structural engineering. He is married to Linda Thurmond, a registered nurse at UGA Health Services. The couple has two children, both UGA graduates. Elizabeth Thurmond earned her bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising in 2013 and Michael Thurmond received his bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2011.
