A Little Taste Can Help A lot of People

Annual Taste of Athens raises money for Community Connection of Northeast Georgia.

There aren’t too many ways you can raise money while filling a happy tummy with delicious food. This weekend, you’ll be able to support one of Athens’ most important non-profits, Community Connection of Northeast Georgia, while sampling and nibbling your way across town at A Taste of Athens.

Community Connection helps 14 countes in our region by directing people to the services they need, connecting volunteers with opportunities to serve and helping non-profits better serve their constituents.

Held at the from 5 to 8pm on Sunday evening, A Taste of Athens assembles more than 50 local food and beverage vendors under one large roof. You can have, say, slices of pizza, beautiful appetizers and barbecue sandwiches, plus dulce de leche and a big slice of cake, all so yummy you’ll want to cry. Or you can choose another cuisine. Or another.

Tickets are $45. Where could you possibly taste so many delectables for that price?

While you’re wandering around the Classic Center, visiting with 2,000 of your closest friends, you’ll be able to bid on the objets d’arte and other items donated to A Taste.

If last year is any indication of what’s available this year, you’ll be able to bid on ceramic pieces, beautiful jewelry, photographs, paintings and much more.

Should you want to eat guilt-free, why not participate in Saturday’s Taste 10K run, which is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race, or in the 1-mile Family Run/Walk? If you, like me, procrastinated, registration for the fun run/walk will cost $15 for each child, though the adult isn’t charged.

The 10K run is now $30. But hey, it’s for a great cause, and you need the exercise after piddling around with those little 5K’s.
