Safe Organics, an online store, has included Athens in its list of the seven best cities for organic food. Here's what they say about Our Fair City:
Sure, they grow exceptional music in Athens, with bands like REM, the B-52s, and Widespread Panic having their organic roots in this town. But the food is exceptional, too. There are over 30 chemical-free farms within 50 miles of Athens and the liberal arts scene in town has inspired dozens of new organic-friendly restaurants like The Grit and Farm 225. Local University of Georgia might be known for college football, but they have an exceptional College of Agricultural that actually offers a Certificate Program in Organic Agriculture. We think their Organic Ag slogan "Think Dirty" is fun, and appreciate that the students and grads alike are pouring that knowledge back into the community.
