Athens Today - Apr 23

Today's Saturday brings Easter eggs, fiddle tunes and slow food.

1. is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on the grass fields adjacent to the playground from noon to 2pm. It is for children ages 6-10, and it is free! The Friends of Five Points neighborhood association is also hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Park at 11am.

2. , Athens’ premiere coffee roasting house, is giving tours from 10am-12pm. Food will be available from local eateries Ike and Jane, Alfredo’s Bread, Earth Fare, Lindsey’s Culinary Market, Silver Lining Cupcakes and more. The event is being hosted by Slow Food Athens, the local chapter of a worldwide grassroots movement focused on preserving regional, traditional cuisine and sustainable farming practices.

3. Local ceramicist Rebecca Wood is having a sale today from 9am-4pm at her studio on Georgia Drive. Wood and her 12-member crew have crafted one-of-a-kind pottery in rich colors, each piece unique and beautiful. You can see some of these pieces at the R. Wood Studio website.

4. Hendershots wants you to celebrate Easter weekend at their 1st annual “Bluau” tonight at 5pm. Try a delicious spam kebob while listening to Kinky Waikiki, a steel drum band, and Big C and the Ringers.

5. hosts a tribute to the late Earl Murphy tonight at 7pm. Several musicians, including Art Rosenbaum and David Blackmon, will start the night off, and at 9pm the stage will open to anyone who wishes to show their love for Earl through a tune or some kind words of remembrance.
