Hello, winter. Are you staying a while?

The zoo that brings you hours of fun during the day is ready to welcome you at night. Yes, Bear Hollow Zoo in is covered in lights. Visit now, through Sunday the 18th, from 5:30 to 7:30, and enjoy not only lights but also live music, animals and photo opportunities. Cost is $3 per person and free for those two and under.

Tired of that old recycling box? Why not swap it for a 96-gallon rolling green and yellow recycling rolls cart? It will hold more paper and plastic than your old bins could. On Thursday, from 4 to 6pm, and on Saturday, from 9 to 11am, go to the old ACC Solid Waste Office on College Avenue and swap out the bins for the cart. Get there early; it’s on a first-come-first-served basis, and there are only 2,500 roll carts. For more info, contact at 706-613-3501.

Holidays can be dark days for many. Athens Clarke County Police say that since Friday, a large number of people have reported car break-in’s. These have occurred on both the east and west sides of town. They urge people not to leave anything valuable in their cars. If you must leave something in the car, put it in the truck, out of sight. Lock your car. Even in your own driveway.
