Today is the Storytime day at the Athens Clarke County Library. At 9:30 and 10:30am, come to the library for an hour of singing, clapping and enjoying the animated stories, songs and puppets. And even participating in the fun.

Sheila West, professor of preventive opthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, will discuss her work with the trachoma  elimination program, a collaboration with the World Health Organization. A reception will follow in Demosthenian Hall.

Get that car seat checked! On Thursday, February 23, ACC Police officers will conduct free child safety seat inspections in the parking lot of Wal Mart on Lexington Road. Some 80 percent of child safety seats are not installed properly. Proper installation could save your child’s life!

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Cynthia Tucker will speak at the UGA School of Public and International Affairs’ annual Getzen Lecture on March 1 at 3 p.m. at the UGA Chapel. Her lecture, “Corporations are People: The Corrosive Influence of Money on Campaigns,” is free and open to the public. She was editorial page editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 17 years, where she led the development of opinion policy. A highly regarded commentator on TV and radio news shows, Tucker maintains a syndicated column, which is published in dozens of newspapers around the country.

Got shoes? The Barrow Boogie is this Saturday at 8:30am at Barrow Elementary, but registration closes tomorrow at 11am. It’s the 9th annual race, which raises money for the school’s PTO. Get running!
