Athens Today--February 27

Mayor Denson is setting many records: she’s the first mayor in years to help and the only one .  As part of that process, today at 10am, the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will determine if the recall application filed by Jim Daniels can move forward. If the board says no, the Mayor has said she will ask for attorney’s fees, because the local government is paying for her defense. The board meets in the Civic Hall at 155 East Washington Street.

Mark your calendar, now, for March 8, at 5:30pm, and come to Room 103 in the Miller Learning Center. That’s when architect and urban planner Andres Duany is giving a lecture entitled “The Surprising 21st Century.” Duany and his wife Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk founded the Florida planning firm DPZ. He’s going to be talking about urban design, planning and sprawl. Ever been to Seaside? DPZ designed it.

Hey, we get an extra day on Wednesday. Don’t know what you’re doing during the daylight hours, but at 7pm, you can come to Hendershot’s for a Leap Day Celebration, featuring a cask of Terrapin Hopzilla and live music by the Humpday Hookers. What a great way to get over the middle of the week.

If you missed the screening of the uplifting documentary don’t worry. You can enjoy it on Thursday, March 1, at and benefit in the process. Seating starts at 6pm and $10 gets you in the door. The event is sponsored by Dancing with the Stars Athens Team 6.
