Happy Thursday!

Just a jolt of reality for all you parents and caregivers of chidren out there: public school in Athens starts on August 8. That's less than four weeks away. Yikes.

At 10:30 this morning, you can catch "The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon," a puppet show, at Mel Auditorium in . Some staff members of the are putting on the show as part of the library's summer reading series. It's free, and you, as well as your children, will enjoy it.

The "Sit in the Shade" poetry series continues at the tonight, with a reading by poet Alice Friman at 7pm. She's a poet-in-residence at Georgia College and State University. So far, the readings have been great, and this one will surely follow suit.

This weekend, 's children's movie is "Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory," a 1971 movie starring Gene Wilder. It shows at 2pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bonus: the Friday show is followed by a craft session sponsored by

is holding a "Museum Mix" tonight in the Willson Sculpture Garden. Free art, food and drink, free music by DJ Winston Parker. What a deal! You can eat, dance and look at art, because some exhibitions will be open until midnight. The party starts at 8pm.
