Athens Today - July 23

Your typical summer Saturday in Athens means a high temperature of 95°, a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms, and lots of great musical acts.

1. Children ages 2-12 are invited to enjoy a free popsicle at today from 10am-11am.

2. is now accepting applications for the Fall After-School session of Camp Amped, where students between the ages of 11-18 will have an opportunity to develop and nurture their musical talent. The camp runs from August 25- November 20 with meetings every Monday and Thursday from 4:30pm-6:30pm. You can see the Grand Finale Performance of Camp Amped’s Summer Session tonight at Nuçi’s Space at 7pm.

3. Today is the 7th Annual Darius Goes West Day in Athens. Watch the film documentary “Darius Goes West” at Ciné at 7pm. Admission is $5 and proceeds will benefit the DGW Fund, a subsidiary of Charley’s Fund, which raises money for research of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The screening will be followed by Q&A with Darius Weems.

4. After the film screening, the Darius Goes West Benefit Concert will be held at the , with performances by Nappy Roots, Bubba Sparxx and Darius himself. Admission is $10.

5. Slopfest! continues tonight at , with a lineup of over 16 sloppy rockin' bands. Admission is only $6.
