South Georgia writer Janisse Ray has two Athens events scheduled for Tuesday. She's appearing at at 4:30 to sign books, and is then giving a reading at at 7pm from her newest work, "The Seed Underground." Both events are free, but you should register online for the Cine reading here to be sure of getting a seat. PLACE is sponsoring the Cine event and would appreciate a $5 donation.

There's a free summer concert by Classic V Brass on Tuesday night in the Visitor Center and Conservatory at the , from 7 to 8pm, featuring "family friendly" tunes. Come early, hang out on the lawn and in the gardens.

Although it's still summer, school beckons. On Saturday, July 28, there's going to be a "Back to School Bash" at Thomas Lay Park from 10am to 6pm. Designed for the whole family, the event is sponsored by the Athens Clarke County Department of Leisure Services. Those who come will get free school supplies.

There's a meeting on Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the Dougherty Street building, at which Leisure Services will gather public input on proposed changes to the Greenway Network Plan. The plan guides green infrastructure development in Athens.

If you haven't been by the lately, you might want to take a trip. Construction, renovation and expansion is moving along. Soon, they'll be enjoying a fruit basket turnover, as departments move to the new parts of the building so workers can rennovate older areas. The Children's Area will move to the new 300-seat auditorium downstairs, the Young Adult department and Circulation will move, and Adult Services, including Reference, will move behind the wall upstairs.
