Athens Today - July 8

This Friday, eat chocolate!

1. Attention all chocoholics! Residents of the Boulevard, Pulaski and Cobbham neighborhoods invite you to help kick off the Summer’s Classic Movie Series at with the film “Chocolat” at 7pm. A celebration after the movie will include music, jugglers, fortune-tellers, cocktails, and of course, copious amounts of chocolate.

2. The is hosting an exhibition titled Kaunakes: Ghosts of Mesopotamia by artist and fabric design professor Glen Kaufman of UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. Kaunakes are the woven wool cloaks of ancient humans. There will be a corresponding live performance of contemporary dance, choreographed by Andrea Trombetta, at the closing of the exhibition on August 6.

3. The special run-off election for House District 113 will take place July 19. Absentee voting is open through July 15, Mon-Fri from 8am-5pm at Civic Hall, 155 E. Washington St. You may read up on candidates Chuck Williams and Dan Matthews .

4. With a valid library card you can borrow a Georgia State Parks Annual Park Pass and an individual Historic Sites Visitors Pass for up to 7 days. The Park Pass will exempt you from paying parking fees at state parks and the Historic Sites Visitors Pass exempts one visitor from admission fees to any state historic site.

5. Looking ahead to Saturday, the Athens Farmers Market will be celebrating all things blueberry at from 8am-12pm. Live music will be provided by Emily Cheney from 8am-10am and Caroline Aiken from 10am-12pm.
