Athens Today - June 4

A summer Saturday in Athens can be whatever you want it to be - a relaxing day or an exciting adventure. But it will surely be hot.

1. There is no shortage of things to do this hot weekend in Athens. Spend your Saturday morning at the to observe capitalism at its very best. You can find plenty of treasures and some of the best Mexican food in town.

2. The is currently hosting the traveling National Library of Medicine exhibit, . Learn about the real-life Nicholas Flamel, and how 16th century alchemists, astrologists and philosophers helped to develop modern Western science. Costumes are not required but are highly encouraged.

3. After you practice your parseltongue, you can visit the at Sandy Creek Nature Center (yes, 33rd!). Snake exhibitors will be showing off their snakes and there will be snake games and crafts. This will be the last Snake Day before the major renovations change the look and feel of the Nature Center.

4. Today is Family Day at the . “Go Figure”, from 10am-12pm, entails a visit to the Icelandic sculptor Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir’s installation and then an opportunity to create your very own figurative sculpture.

5. For a different sort of artistic experience, you may want to try out one of the new art bars in town. Artini’s, Pints and Paints, and Sips n Strokes all offer you the chance to enjoy drinks with friends while creating your very own masterpiece.
