Thank goodness it's Friday, and it's raining!

Feel like eating a little barbecue? is hosting her Jackson County kickoff for House District 117 on Saturday. former Democrat-turned Republican Doug McKillip in the Republican primary, and she would welcome her Athens supporters. The barbecue and she will be at the Nicholson Community Center from 12:30 to 3:30pm. Wonder if a silent camera man will be lurking in the shadows, filming her?

Toot, toot! Time for Railroad Days tomorrow at the . On display will be an elaborate model railroad landscape, as well as real vehicles of every sort, including a fire truck, police car, motorcycles, antique and show cars, tractors and Volkswagens.  Plus inflatables, a train ride and more barbecue. There really is something interesting for everyone, from toddlers to seniors. Admission is $5 a person or $20 for a family of five. Things start at 11am.

seems to be the place for award-winning movies this weekend. You can take in The Artist, Hugo or the all-that Iranian movie A Separation, which won an Academy Award for best screenplay.

The early 19th-century log house at , said to be the oldest structure in Clarke County, will be open to the public on Saturday….for free! You can come from 1 to 4pm, enjoy a warming fire and see how things were done long before electricity expanded our options. 

There's still time to see "James and the Giant Peach" at the Seney Stovall Chapel. The Rose of Athens Theatre is bringing to life Roald Dahl's beloved story. Performance times are 7pm today and 2 and 7pm on Saturday. Tickets are $8 to $16.
