5 Things to Know on Memorial Day in Athens, GA.

1. Today is Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. Athens Patch garden columnist gives a short history and super-blogger puts his own spin on the holiday.

2. Bring the family to Memorial Park for an afternoon of fun activities to celebrate Memorial Day. Music, crafts, children's games and activities are planned. Concessions will be available for purchase. The Memorial Park pool will be open from 1:00pm- 5:30pm and pool admission fee is $1.00 per person.

3.  One way to honor and protect our local heroes is to donate blood. The Athens chapter of the is, in fact, open today. Consider using your day off work to give the gift of life.

4. The ever-popular Ashford Manor Concert on the Lawn Series kicks off today with Beatles tribute band Abbey Road Live! The gates will open at 5:00pm and music will play from 6:00pm-9:00pm.

5. A “heads up” for tomorrow - there will be a quarterly networking event for local film industry professionals and supporters of local film, media and commercial production at in Downtown Athens. Participants will meet from 6pm-8:30pm to discuss current projects and opportunities and catch up on local film happenings. Snacks will be provided.
