Athens Today--November 4

TGIF twice!

1. Don't forget that today Cine hosts a screening of George Lucas' classic, "American Graffiti," for its annual membership drive kickoff today at 5:30pm and 8pm. At 7pm, there will be a reception catered by The National (think burgers and fries) and served by the Classic City Rollergirls. Tickets are $10.

2. Also today, be aware that the UGA Homecoming parade will stop traffic in downtown, beginning at 6 p.m. Former UGA All-American football player Charlie Trippi, who played in the 1940s, is the grand marshal. After the parade, there's a carnival on Legion Field from 7 to 11 p.m., with a $5 charge for non-students.

3. Sunshine Cycles (the Watkinsville branch) is sponsoring a ladies ride tomorrow from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Please bring road bikes, water bottles and helmets.

The program includes works by Handel, Sibelius, Morton Gould and others, performed by more than 75 young musicians from Northeast Georgia. The concert is free and open to the public.

5. If you've ever taken a yoga class at or at , chances are you met Jennifer Derryberry Mann (who wrote Nurture + Frolic for Athens Patch). Jenni teaches pre-natal yoga and yoga for mamas and babies, as well as the vigorous Forrest Yoga, named for founder Ana Forrest. She also writes, edits and takes care of her family. Jenni and her family are moving to Nashville for her husband's career. She has made Athens a better place with her presence, and she will be missed.
