Athens Today--November 9th

We made it! It's Wednesday!

1. The passes in Athens by a 3-to-1 margin, so we'll keep on paying that penny sales tax for improving our schools and the gizmos in them. No more buckets for , no more overcrowding at and . Good-bye, trailers!

2. The will hold storytime for toddlers today at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., so pack up the young 'uns and head on over to the library for an hour of fun and frolic. From 3 to 4:20 p.m., young readers can read aloud to certified therapy dogs. Dogs have a calming effect and reduce the hesitation children can experience when they read.

3. Fresh from the original Occupy Wall Street, Jeff Magnum, of Neutral Milk Hotel, returns to Athens for two performances at the on Feb. 10th and 11th. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 10, at noon, so start your engines. The price is high, but worth it.

4. The (ACCPD) will hold a meeting this Thursday, from 6-8:00pm at for anyone interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch for their area. Mayor Nancy Denson will speak, as will investigators and officers. A Neighborhood Safety Officer will explain the program and offer guidance for those interested in starting one in their neighborhood. 5. The University Childcare Center hosts an information session today for parents from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room AB of the Training and Development Center at 315 S. Thomas St. The center will open on UGA's Normaltown campus in January. Running it will be Wes Zwir of Prodigies Child Care Management. The center will serve up to 146 children ages six weeks through four years, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. To reserve a space for the session, contact Kim Eberhart at 706/542-6077.
