Athens Today--October 2

Wow! nightime temps in the 40s! It's sweater weather!

1. Don’t forget that Monday is a holiday for public school students in Athens. It’s a day for Professional Learning Communities for teachers and administrators. And there’s a three-day holiday break later in the month as well.

 2. Who wants to cook when they emerge from church? Or from a night of celebrating the Bulldogs’ win? Or of going out in downtown Athens? Numerous restaurants offer tasty Sunday brunches, among them , , the , the , , and . Breakfast is always good at and , too.

 3. The is open today from 1 to 5 p.m. The museum has a wonderful collection and interesting exhibits. Plan now to return on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for the Latin American Film Festival documentary, "Grandma Has a Video Camera." You’ll see 20 years of home video by Brazilian immigrants to the U.S. Admission is free.

 4. The continues its community history walks. Today at 2 p.m., Athens native and TRR Cobb descendant Milton Leathers leads a walk through the Cobbham Historic District. The walk costs $12 for members and $15 for the great unwashed. Meet at the Old Firehall.

 5. Georgia plays Florida this afternoon. No, sit down, not football. Volleyball! The match gets udnerway at 1:30 in the Ramsey Center. Go, Dawgs! Spike it!
