Athens Today: September 7

Fall weather is here! Today, the high will be only 74°, and it will gradually increase to a pleasant 85° this weekend.

1. We are lucky to have so many opportunities for learning here in Athens. Athens Technical College, Gainesville College and UGA offer a variety of continuing education courses. Coming up soon at Athens Tech are classes in Soap Making, Personal Computing and Woodworking. Gainesville College is offering several Health Career Courses, and UGA offers courses in American Sign Language, Beginning Sewing and Fiction Writing, among many others. Sign up now!

2. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia offers classes in Seed Saving, Metalsmithing, Canning, Medicinal Plants, Zumba and much more. There are also several course opportunities to earn a Certificate in Native Plants, for which Orientation will take place on September 15 at 9am.

3. Good Dirt, a local non-profit clay studio, is now registering students for fall classes. There are classes available for beginners and experts alike, as well as glass workshops and youth classes.

4. Athens now has its very own high-flying trapeze school, Leap Trapeze. The Fall Workshop will meet every Sunday for 8 weeks starting September 11.

5. Whole. Mind. Body. Art. is a studio space in Downtown Athens that offers classes in Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Belly Dancing, Fiber Arts, Laughing Yoga, Expressive Writing and Photography. There are 30-minute Express Classes designed for people on their lunch break, a Play’n’Lunch Bunch for the 5 and under crowd and this Friday night, a drop-off Superhero Workshop for kids ages 4 and up.
