Athens Weekly Planner: Dec. 19-25

Merry Christmas! Happy Hannukah!

Hannukah begins at sundown, Tuesday, Dec. 20 and is celebrated over eight days.

Christmas will be celebrated this Sunday, Dec. 25.

will be open every day this week, offering fun classes (every day!) and the coolest kids toys and clothing to help complete your holiday shopping list. On Monday, kids 6 and up can participate in a Glitter Ornament Workshop with Kristen Bach at 4pm. Check out the calendar for the complete schedule of classes.

ACC Leisure Services has a couple of fun programs planned for children this week in celebration of Christmas. On Tuesday, a Youth Christmas Party will be held at from 6pm-8pm, for kids ages 3-10, and Santa will be there! A Kids Yuletide Bash, with karaoke, crafts and dancing, will be held Wednesday evening at from 4:30pm-6pm.

Next week, kids ages 4-12 are invited to participate in the Winter Explorers Minicamp, which takes place at Sandy Creek Nature Center, December 28-30 from 9:30am-12:30pm. Call 706-613-3615 to register.Β 

Fine Art and crafts by more than 75 local artists are featured at the Lyndon House Arts Center Holiday Market. Art lovers will be able to purchase gifts and holiday creations including wreaths, ornaments, cards, jewelry, paintings, soap, pottery, purses, scarves, wood, stained glass and much more! The market will be open Tue-Sat from 12p-5p thru Jan. 7.

The Oconee County Arts Foundation (OCAF) Artists Shoppe will also be open this week, Tue-Fri from 10am-4pm, and will feature work by regional artists and artisans. Β 

Unsilent Night, a musical performance conceived by artist Phil Kline, will be held at on Friday, Dec. 23. The act takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant will have one of four tracks in the form of CD, cassette or MP3, and will play their track simultaneously while walking along a carefully chosen route through the streets of Athens.

Bethlehem, GA, a little town about 18 miles east of Athens off Hwy. 316, will be the site for a live Nativity scene in the Town Square on Thursday and Friday. There will be two nightly shows, one at 7p and one at 8p. This event, sponsored by the Bethlehem First United Methodist Church, is free and open to the public.
