Athens-Clarke Police: Area Roads are Icy, 'Very Treacherous'

Athens-Clarke County Police Department says roadways in the county "are covered with ice and are very treacherous."

In an Ice Storm Update alert sent via email, the agency encourages people to avoid driving altogether.

"We encourage citizens to remain at home and stay off the roadway," read the alert. "If you have to drive, slow down and drive cautiously. Turn your vehicle’s headlights on so others will be able to see you."

With more freezing precipitation expected through the night, the department warns of ice forming on power lines and tree limbs and causing power outages.
