Great Escapes - Hotel Indigo

This hotel in Downtown Athens is a romantic retreat, for locals, too!

Athens very own offers a romantic setting for you and your date to spend a night, or the whole weekend, if you wish. This unique hotel was designed with energy efficiency in mind, from its orientation to its mattresses, it is top notch in certified LEED design.

A cistern collects condensation from air conditioning units and uses the water for the courtyard garden. The building itself is oriented on the east-west axis for maximum sun exposure. Coffee is supplied by local roasting company, . All guestroom furniture was sourced from Dillon Furniture Co., located a mere 250 miles from the hotel. Locally printed and framed concert posters featuring bands and musicians from Athens appear in each room, and the frames are made by local artists, constructed from reclaimed barn wood. Those who drive low-emission or hybrid vehicles enjoy priority parking, and showers and bike racks are available for employees who bike to work.

Beyond the architectural design, and as part of a sustainable business model, the hotel staff strives to enhance the community of Athens. So many fun events are planned with visitors in mind, it is a shame that the people of Athens might not feel inclined to make Hotel Indigo their next travel destination. Consider it a “staycation,” book a night at the hotel and enjoy a night of romance.

You can enjoy a lovely meal at the hotel’s Madison Bar and Bistro, or choose from one of the many fine restaurants in Downtown Athens, such as , , , , , , , and many more, all within walking distance of the hotel.

On Wednesday evenings friendly, spayed or neutered, vaccinated dogs are invited to come hang out with their owners on the patio of the Madison Bar and Bistro.

This Thursday, the hotel is hosting an opening reception for “Dawgs and Dogs: The Works of Wingate Downs and Mary Engel.” The event takes place from 6:30pm-8:30pm and is free to attend.

Every Friday from 4pm-9pm, enjoy “Local Libations”, $5 specialty cocktails at The Madison Bar and Bistro.

On October 8 and 9, the hotel will host the Athens Craft Beer Festival. You can purchase tickets to this event online.
