New Parking Meters Mean You can Pay in Many Ways in Athens, Ga.

New parking meters come to downtown Athens.

Better have your coins or plastic cards ready when you venture downtown. The Athens Downtown Development Authority has installed 510 new solar-powered parking meters. They replace the meters that were on the fritz or completely kaput. If you park downtown a lot, you know where these were. You can use a credit card, a debit card or coins to buy time on the new meters, and you can even add extra time from a downtown wireless location. You can pay for two hours of parking until 6pm and four hours from 6 to 10pm. After 10, parking is free. And on Sunday, there’s no charge for parking.
