Potential Sigma Chi House Site for Sale in Athens, Ga.
There's a for sale sign on the North Milledge Avenue property.
There's a for sale sign on North Milledge Avenue, on land where St. Mary's Hospital was, years ago. It's the land where the Sigma Chi fraternity wanted to build a large--way too large, according to the Historic Preservation Commission--fraternity house. Apparently, the months-long process of getting the plans approved has ended and the fraternity is looking elsewhere.
According to Flagpole, Brad Kohl, president of the UGA chapter of the fraternity's housing corporation, said he didn't know the property was on the market. When the Athens-Clarke Historic Preservation Commission denied Sigma Chi's request to build the house in November, the fraternity's option. "We never had ownership of that property," Kohl said.

Many residents of the Cobbham neighborhood organized fast and furiously to oppose the fraternity. They were joined by homeowners living near the Kappa Alpha house on Hancock, who told public officials about the impact the fraternity has had on their homes and lives. The Cobbham residents hired an attorney, picked a spokesperson and did their research.
The Flagpole story says the Sigma Chi members are now looking elsewhere for a suitable house location.
