Weekend Planner: Too Many Possibilities, Not Enough Time

Here's our pick of activities going on in or around Athens this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1. Classic City Rollergirls Bad New B's v. Appalachian Rollergirls from Boone, NC.

Where/When: The bout is on Saturday, April 2, at the team's new venue, the Athens Arena at 280 Commerce Boulevard, just west of Georgia Square Mall in Bogart.  Doors open at 6 p.m. and things start rolling at 7.

Why Go: To see fast-paced, homegrown talent on skates.

Pricing: Tickets are $10 in advance for adults and $12 at the door; children 6 to 10 years old are $5; and children under 6 are free. 

2. “AUNT DAN AND LEMON”

 Where/When: The Cellar Theatre at the UGA Fine Arts Building on Thursday thru Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. 

Why Go: To see a play by Wallace Shawn that is provocative, philosophical, odd, eloquent and gripping.

Pricing: $10 for general admission; $7 for UGA students

3. BELA FLECK, ZAKIR HUSSAIN AND EDGAR MEYERIN

Where/When: Hodgson Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. on Friday

Why Go: To hear Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyerin, who are considered the leading virtuosos on their respective instruments. These guys are way cool.

Pricing: $20 to $40 for general admission; $5 for UGA students

4. ATHENS FARMERS MARKET OPENING DAY

Where/When: Bishop Park from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: To support your local farmers, learn about a political issue or two and return home with great bounty. Hooray!

Pricing: Free admission

5. FESTIFOOL AT THE FARMINGTON DEPOT GALLERY

Where/When: The Farmington Depot Gallery from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: To usher in the month of April and experience food, fun and art for all to enjoy.
